Voices Lost, History Lost...

Now that Joe Tessitore has been named as the new lead voice for "Monday Night Football," can you name the other individuals that have had that chair...???

Keith Jackson, Frank Gifford, Al Michaels, Mike Tirico and Sean McDonough....

That's it...

Almost fifty years of one product and that's it...

Before we go any further, this is not going to be any kind of discussion on the new ESPN decision- that's not where we're going here...

With the loss of Woody Durham from our soundtracks this week, it reinforces a point that some of us in a certain generation are faced with- the voices of our impressionable years are fading away...

Keith Jackson, Dick Enberg, and Durham had been a part of our trains of thought and fandom in college and pro athletics for forty years or more. They're gone...

Here's a small sampling of what Woody Durham meant to 40-plus years of North Carolina athletics, thanks to our friends at WTVD-TV...

And the tribute from some of his ACC peers, thanks to our friends at the ACC Digital Network...

Think about it for a second...

At your favorite club, college or pro, doesn't matter the sport you follow... who is your storyteller...? Who has the history that can be relayed at first thought...? Who can remember the days that you were right there with you every step of the way...?

Who has the recall that you do when you're with your other friends on game days...???

And I think it's safe to say that the days of Munson, Charlie Mac, John Ward, Jack Cristil, Johnny Holliday, and numerous others are a breed that will not be with us going forward...

That, in and of itself, is a shame...

If history doesn't walk with us, then we're relegated to finding it somewhere on social media or in someone's collection of clips they convert themselves and put on YouTube.

And, the HQ thanks everyone for putting their favorite clips on YouTube... It's a fantastic rabbit hole to go down these days...

If there's an announcer that is still in that group, treasure them and appreciate them (Woody's son, Wes, is one of those voices these days...) because they're that artist that moves history forward...

Question of the Day: Who's your soundtrack...???
