ESPN Pulls Broadcaster Robert Lee from UVA Game Because of Name

Sigh....in the current alternate universe where everything from a large corporation has to eliminate any possibility of politics comes what may actually be the worst example ever.

ESPN has reassigned a play-by-play guy from University of Virginia football for one reason: His name....

Robert Lee....

Mind you Mr. Lee is Asian-American and has ZERO connection to anything even remotely political or Confederate and would be confused by NOBODY as Robert E. Lee.

Unfortunately, the ill conceived move was discovered by Internet troll Clay Travis who immediately jumped on it and the story has now taken on a life of its own on pretty much every political TV Show and website imaginable.

Sigh....people are absolutely psychotic these days when anything even remotely politicized appears on the radar. And this, well, is gonna be talked about for awhile....

ESPN did release a statement regarding their decision and claim Lee agreed the move was a good idea...

SMH---The saddest part of this is its an issue now because it was made public. For Sports fans--the name of an play-by-play guy in a 4th tier game broadcast regionally is generally not an issue. You get to hear the names at the beginning of the game and start of the 2nd half...that's about it.

Unless you are a hardcore fan--I challenge any of you to name more than 5 College Football Play-by-Play guys.

Think about it for a minute.....

So Lee, a nice man with a family who lives in New York now gets to move to Pittsburgh games. Not a step back...nor a step up. But his name and the non-political---political move to reassign him will forever be attached to him no matter how successful or short his TV career is.

Yes, Travis and others are now convinced ESPN is a totally liberal, evil group focused on eliminating one side of the political conversation. The rest of us rational folks---realize they are just a gigantic, corporate monolith who wants no part of anything that could be construed by anyone...even just one person--as being a sliver of offensive to just that person.

And unfortunately in these highly charged and idiotic political times---it's really, really easy to find someone who will be offended...whether they really are or being told they should be....

Sigh......
