Got $2 Billion? You Could Own the Brooklyn Nets
Got a few Billion dollars sitting around and looking for a place to spend them? Well, have we got a deal for you.
Reports are coming out of New York saying the owner of the Brooklyn Nets, Mikhail Prokhorov is looking at possibly selling his team. Of course there have already been reports Prokhorov was looking for a minority investor, so this would just take things up another level.
The mercurial Russian Billionaire has spent a ton of money trying to make the Nets competitive to no avail--including a pretty arena in Brooklyn. And thus far, he's got little to nothing to show for it.
Of course the reports say...at least initially that Prokhorov is looking specifically for Chinese investors to help pay for the team. But if someone were willing to pony up a couple billion, he'd be more than happy to sell.
We do however have questions (who doesn't?)....
Most of them having to do with the push for Chinese ownership. Though we should add the idea of an American dropping 2-Bill for the Nets is a bit of a reach since most here stateside know how mediocre the franchise actually is.
But....they do hold a majority stake in the Barclays Center and surrounding development which is definitely a plus. And if you remember, Steve Ballmer paid $2 billion for the slightly better but still underachieving Clippers. Combine that with Houston Rockets owner Les Alexander's state plan to sell his team and you can understand why Prokhorov is looking to possibly sell.
Yes, it is really...really hard to comprehend someone coming up with $2 Billion for, well, anything--but in today's world of the obscenely rich and then the rest of us....anything is possible.
I suppose these two guys (D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov) will give long suffering Nets fans and a potential buyer...some semblance of hope.
