Ozzie Albies Should be Your New Favorite Baseball Player

Imagine for just a minute you're 21-years old, from a foreign country and playing Major League Baseball in front of 30-40,000 people a night.

You aren't the traditional tall, strong 6 foot, 3 inch, 210 pound prototype--rather you are the shortest, arguably least imposing guy on the entire field.

It likely would make you Atlanta Braves 2nd baseman Ozzie Albies.

If you haven't seen Albies, a rookie, play baseball---you're missing something special. As one of the Braves top prospects coming into the season, I think it is safe to say nobody could predict him doing what he has done in 2018 which is become the catalyst for a surprisingly dangerous Braves lineup. The Braves currently lead the National League East and are arguably the most surprising team in Major League Baseball in 2018.

Sure, the pitching has improved as has the team defense. No, I'm not one of those guys that looks at WAR numbers, splits and other minutia of the game. I just look for someone who jumps off the page and is different than everyone else.

Ozzie Albies is that guy.

No, it is not statistics that make him such a game changer. It's not the super quick speed. It's everything else.

Yeah, the size is deceptive. At 5-7, 165 he doesn't look like a guy who'll crush baseballs....but....

That was Monday night in the 11th inning of a game vs. the resurgent Cincinnati Reds. It was the first pitch he saw and something he swears he told teammates would happen while still in the dugout.

No, he's not Babe Ruth---but Ozzie Albies is currently your National League leader in Extra Base hits and he's hit 17 home runs already this season.

He's pretty good on defense too. With quick feet and great hands Ozzie gets to almost everything hit in the 2nd base hole and makes plays like this....

It's because he's absolutely fearless and plays the game with an energy, enthusiasm and sense of humor not seen very often these days...

But really, the reason you should pay attention to this guy---well, just look at this Twitter thread. It sums all this up in a way words can't.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury....I rest my case.
