Fresno State's Hawaii Bowl Win Was The Craziest Game Nobody Saw

This years Hawaii Bowl featured in no particular order: A fumbled kickoff return, a blocked field goal return for a touchdown, a personal foul against a head coach for asking about a replay and a fat guy touchdown among other things.

The stands were largely empty and there's no telling if anyone actually spent their Christmas Eve watching this game---but they missed a doozy.

Fresno State won the game 33-27 over the University of Houston in what may very well go down as the most bizarrely entertaining minor-bowl game of the year.

The Bulldogs won their 10th game of the season--capping a dramatic turnaround under new Head Coach Jeff Tedford and were led by QB Marcus McMaryion who ran for 2 TD's and threw for 348 yards.

But....he wasn't the only highlight.

The craziness began on a Houston TD by All-World, Outland Trophy winner Ed Oliver. Oliver, Defensive Tackle, lined up at Tailback and the 6-3 290 pounder steamrolled into the end zone for his first ever touchdown on his first ever carry....

After McMaryion's second rushing TD, Houston would fumble the ensuing kickoff....

Bulldog Head Coach Jeff Tedford would get flagged for a personal foul after a close call at the goal line went against his team. Tedford wanted a review because he felt his RB scored. The officials did review the play which wasn't overturned and Fresno was moved back 15-yards and ended up with a field goal.

((ed.note: I looked for video, it was for some reason like everything else involving this game--very hard to find))

But alas--the game was won after a deflected pass bounced high into the air, landing in the waiting arms of Jaron Bryant who brought it back, 44-yards for a touchdown giving Fresno a lead they did not relinquish.

Note---when I said at the beginning of the game that nobody was at the game....look at this tweet from Fresno....

And this is the reason I've written multiple columns stating how little it matters if anyone actually attends a Bowl Game. As long as it is on TV and the teams actually show up---the Bowl makes money.
