Sometimes You're The Louisville Slugger, Sometimes You Lose 98-0

((HT: Twitter/St. John's Football))

Yes, the HQ knows that some box scores and line scores this week and next will be a little out of whack...

Current example: A Division III scoreline between St. John's (MN) and St. Scholastica

Here's a TD pass that made it 35-0 Johnnies...

It was 28-0 after 1, 63-0 at the half, 84-0 after 3, and 98-0 at the final whistle.

Net yards were 560-52 in favor of SJU. 14 different RB's had stats as did 3 QB's who only threw 17 passes and 10 receivers caught those passes.

Interestingly enough, the offensive plays from scrimmage were almost equal (62-59), but SJU had 28 first downs to Scholastica's 3.

One of the wildest numbers was that the Johnnies had 20 tackles for loss... and 13 different players scored for SJU. We'll leave the rest to the Johnnies SID:

Seven of the Johnnies' 12 offensive scoring drives covered 41 yards or less and the entire 180-man roster, outside of the injured, played in the game. The 98 points scored set a new NCAA Division III record for a game played between two Division III opponents. The previous record was Concordia-Moorhead's 97-6 victory over Macalester on Sept. 24, 1977. The NCAA Division III record for points in a game is 105 (105-0), set by Rockford (Ill.) against then-NAIA Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Sept. 6, 2003. The Johnnies' 63 points scored in the first half set a new program record, surpassing the 62 points scored in the first half against Hamline on Oct. 9, 1993, in Collegeville.

For the record, if you haven't read Austin Murphy's "The Sweet Season" on his season spent with John Gagliardi and the Johnnies, do so...
