When A Tie Is A Loss... And A Season Ends...

((HT: WSB-TV Atlanta))

The HQ will be the first to say that sport and their organizing bodies have rules... and they're there for a reason... Sometimes, the rules need changing and this might be one of those times...

Take you to the NAIA and their softball playoffs...

Reinhardt University, just north of the HQ's home town, was in a regional where they had lost their opening game. The regional was double elimination, so there was a little wiggle room- until weather intervened in the possible elimination of the Eagles and the game that was tied at the time Mother Nature had her say turned into a loss...

Because of the rules...

But there's more to it... from the Eagles' Carleigh Myatt's Twitter...

So, yeah, this is really weird... and, when weather cleared, it looked like only one side was interested in getting the field ready for play...

No lights, no tarp, someone calling a game who may not have had the authority to do so, an Athletic Director that may or may not have given any thought (or care) to the process, and the governing body didn't seem to happy with Myatt's trumpeting...

Here's how local media reported the story...

For the record, here's the game until lightning intervened... thanks to KOFO Radio

And ten seniors are done playing a sport because of rules that were more like guideposts that could be adhered to... or not...

Going forward, the recommendation should be that everything you need (for every contingency) ought to be adhered to for games that are supposed to be this important... and the guaranteed gate shouldn't be a part of the equation...
