Baltimore gets 2 Runs on the Weirdest Inside the Park HR This Week
Um, the Tampa Bay Rays have some 'splainin'...to do after one of the ugliest fielding sequences we've seen in a long, long time.
During the 2nd inning of Wednesday nights game vs. the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore the O's got basically 2 gimme runs on what should have been a Seth Smith single to center field.
Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier came up with Smith's grounder and tried to throw out Ryan Flaherty who was trying to advance to 3rd on the play. Kiermaier's throw got away from 3B Evan Longoria and rolled towards the dugout where it was scooped up by P Alex Cobb.
For reasons unknown, Cobb tried to catch Flaherty straying off the bag. Cobb's throw caught Longoria by surprise too, rolling out to left field.
Flaherty easily scored from 3rd and Smith, who was running the whole time continued around 3rd and easily beat the throw to the plate.
Ironically Smith would end up with more "Heroics" after drawing a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th inning giving the Orioles a 5-4 extra inning win.
